How
AARP Made $2.8 Billion Supporting Obamacare’s Cuts to Medicare
As you know if you’ve been reading this blog,
Obamacare cuts $716 billion from Medicare in order to pay for its expansion of
coverage to low-income Americans. It’s one of the reasons why seniors are more
opposed to the new health law than any other age group. So why is it that the
group that purports to speak for seniors, the American Association of Retired
Persons, so strongly supports a law that most seniors oppose? According to an
explosive new report from Sen. Jim DeMint (R., S.C.), it’s because those very
same Medicare cuts will give the AARP a windfall of $1 billion in insurance
profits, and preserve another $1.8 billion that AARP already generates from its
business interests.

The
Letters and Lessons of Teddy Roosevelt for His Sons
Edited and Compiled by Doug Phillips
Roosevelt adored his children, four of whom were boys, each of whom he was intent on turning into a man of action. He once commented that his own father was the greatest man he ever knew. His commitment to being the same example for his sons was evident not only in the remarkable globe-trotting adventures on which they accompanied him, but also in the copious letters that he wrote to them, many of which communicated deep truths about manhood, Christianity, and courage. The Letters & Lessons of Teddy Roosevelt for His Sons contains some of the most interesting letters and lessons that T.R. wrote to his boys and ably demonstrates how fathers can embrace with vigor their charge to raise up manly sons.

Why Christian Pacifism Won’t Work
Beyond being merely
a voice of “protest,” pacifism has no cache in the real world of politics,
public policy and foreign affairs. This is perfectly obvious in the case
of the classical Christian pacifist who refuses, as a matter of principle, to
become involved in politics, public policy, foreign affairs and who more
generally, (to adopt a phrase from Stanley Hauerwas) refuses to “give advice to
Caesar.” But it is also quite difficult to take “seamless garment pacifism” all
that seriously as a matter of public policy and foreign affairs. However, even
as a voice of protest against the use of military force in a particular
instance, or more generally, against the size of defense spending, for example,
such pacifism can’t be taken all that seriously. For instance, when a
“seamless garment” pacifist prophetically denounces as unjust the use of
military force in a particular instance, in Grenada, Bosnia, Kosovo,
Rwanda, Iraq, or Afghanistan, Gaza or more broadly the counter-terrorist
campaign against Al Qaeda, politicians and public policy officials may humor
them, and perhaps put them to good use for their own particular foreign policy
views, but at the end of the day they know perfectly well that this is
simply a practical implication of their broader principle, that the use and
application of lethal force is always wrong, wicked, evil and condemned by the
life and teachings of Jesus who they claim to follow. Similarly, when pacifists
call for a reduction in the size of the Department of Defense, everyone knows
that this is because, as a matter of principle, they don’t believe there should
be a Defense Department in the first place. And, of course, when pacifists
plead that public officials should use force as a “last resort,” it is
difficult to take them seriously when you know that in principle, they do not
believe a “last resort” is ever reached. There is always, for the
pacifist, some other “non-violent” response to evil that is always morally
preferable to the use of lethal force. In addition to disagreeing with them
about their pacifism, politicians and other public officials know that they
represent are a fairly small minority of the American public.

Cain: I'd Be Ahead of Obama By Now By Todd Beamon
Former Republican
presidential candidate Herman Cain says that if he was the party’s nominee, he
would probably have a “substantial lead” on President Barack Obama by now. “The reason is quite simple: I have some
depth to my ideas,” the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO said in a speech at
the University of Florida, The Gainesville Sun reports. He was speaking at the
school as part of his “College Truth Tour.”
As for the man who is the GOP nominee, Cain said Mitt Romney’s recent comment that 47 percent of Americans are dependent on the government is a “non-story” being exaggerated by the media. Cain isn’t too impressed with the Obama administration. “Stupid people are ruining America, and we've got to take it back,” he said. The former candidate, who gained a lot of notoriety for his 9-9-9 tax plan said, “We've got to stop talking about reforming the tax code. It doesn't work.” Cain’s plan entails a 9 percent personal income tax, a 9 percent corporate income tax, and a 9 percent national sales tax. The retired businessman has no interest in a Cabinet position if Romney wins, he says. Cain says he will replace talk radio host Neal Boortz when Boortz retires in January and perhaps work in television too. “If I can't convert [the media], I'm going to join them.”

Pledge Allegiance to Barack?
The question that
will be answered in November will be "Whose America will
we become?". The Obama campaign is selling a new image of the
American flag that replaces the Stars and Stripes with Obama's logo and five
red stripes as part of their "For All" campaign . A more honest
slogan would be "All for Obama". Some believe that their defacement
of the US flag is a disgraceful attempt to brand President Obama as the
"ruler" of America. We agree. Several Hollywood actors are even
encouraging their fans to pledge allegiance to Obama, not America. It
is painfully clear that Obama wants dependence on government through a
socialist system of wealth redistribution. He has shown that he has no regard
for the Constitution and is willing to use Executive Orders and Federal
regulatory agencies to destroy the American dream of achieving success through
hard work and initiative. The
absolute failure of the Obama Presidency to deal with both domestic and foreign
policy issues is well documented, yet he still could win in November if we do
not stop him. His lapdogs in the media will do anything to hide his failures
and paint Republicans as the problem. You and I know this is not true, but a
lie repeated often enough becomes the truth to many voters.

Christian Mobs Riot, Loot, Rape, Murder … Not
Gary DeMar makes an
outstanding and timely comparison here. In hindsight, it seems a pretty obvious
point. I’m frankly embarrassed to admit I didn’t make this connection myself.
Thankfully, Gary DeMar did!
So … where are the
“Christian” riots??? Dr. Karen L. King, a
professor at Harvard Divinity School, has released what she claims may be a 4th
century papyrus that depicts Jesus as being. Here’s how the “discovery” is
being reported:
“A small fragment
of faded papyrus contains a suggestion that Jesus may have been married.
“The fragment, with just eight lines of text on the front and six lines
on the back, is from a fourth-century dialogue, written in the Coptic language,
between Jesus and his disciples. In it, Jesus speaks of ‘my wife,’ according to
Harvard professor Karen L. King, who discovered the fragment.
“‘The most exciting line in the whole fragment . . . is the sentence
‘Jesus said to them [his disciples], my wife.’”
Anyone familiar
with the history of Christian doctrine knows that the church has always taught
that Jesus never married. While Jesus holds up the sanctity of marriage (Matt.
19:1–12), it was not His designed purpose to marry.

“Heartless” Romney Blows Obama/Biden Away in
Charity Gifts
Republican
presidential nominee Mitt Romney was far more generous to charities than
President Barack Obama or Vice President Joe Biden last year, both in dollar
terms and as a percentage of income, tax
return data Romney’s campaign released Friday indicate. Romney and his
wife, Ann, gave 29.4 percent of their income to charity in 2011, donating
$4,020,772 out of the $13,696,951 they took in. Obama and first lady Michelle
Obama gave 21.8 percent of their income to charitable organizations last year,
donating $172,130 out of the $789,674 they made. Biden and his wife, Jill, gave
1.5 percent of their income away in 2011, with charitable donations totaling
$5,540 out of $379,035. Republicans have mocked Obama and especially Biden for
being unusually tight-fisted when it comes to making charitable gifts. When the
Obama campaign released past tax returns for Biden in 2008, it was revealed
that the Bidens donated just $3,690 to charity over 10 years — an average of
$369 a year.

Median income in Ohio hits 27-year low
Ohio households
were poorer last year than they’ve been in more than 25 years, and the number
of people living in poverty is higher than it’s been in more than 30 years,
according to a census report released yesterday. “People are getting squeezed from every
direction,” said James Newton, chief economic adviser to Commerce National
Bank. When adjusted for inflation, the 2010 annual median household income in
Ohio of $46,093 was down by $543 from the previous year, and down 15.3 percent
from the peak of $54,395 in 2000, according to the census’s Current Population
Survey, which was released yesterday. This and when Obama campaigns in Ohio he
clap traps about the growth in manufacturing jobs!
