The pursuit of Constitutionally grounded governance, freedom
and individual liberty

I received this email from a
self-professed fan. But in his note, he felt obliged to add this:
I do take one strong exception to
your statement that Social Security is the largest Ponzi scheme ever. Social
Security is an insurance policy. We pay real money to receive real benefits. It
currently has over 2 trillion dollar surplus. And, if we simply remove the cap
so that the wealthy continue to pay in at the same rate as everyone else, it
will be solvent for all time. So,
instead of painting yourself as one of the few intellectual right-wing
extremists out there, why don't you use your obvious intellect and be honest
about Social Security instead of parroting Fox News talking points?
It never ceases to amaze me that
there is anyone out there who still believes any of this. At the age of 17, in
1959, I was taught the truth in a high school civics class. The program is
not funded in terms of any insurance program.

There are a lot of similarities
between Ireland when I was growing up (and Ireland has only gotten worse) and
America today. America today has become a follower in the long tradition of Socialism
and Marxism. Today Americans are being taught the same things I was taught when
I was growing up. Government is your friend, it will only ever act in your best
interests and that you must accept a greater role of government in your life
because the politicians are elected by the people and it is their job to ensure
fairness for all. However fairness was always what was politically
expedient at the time. We were always taught
to overlook the inefficiencies of government – whether it is the DMV in
America to the health service in Ireland. Yet it never occurs to people to hand it over to a
private individual with a profit motive. The only change is a new leader,
but all the players stay the same and thus results never change. Ronald
Reagan put it best in 1964 when he said, “The more the plans FAIL, the more the
planners plan”.
We are in the season of Advent and today I want to talk to
you about poverty. After all next March will be the 50th Anniversary
of Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty Speech.

US tax deal could prove deadly for
small banks ... US demands are "barely tolerable both economically and
legally", according to Swiss Bankers Association chairman Patrick Odier
... Valiant, Berner Kantonalbank and Vontobel are the first Swiss banks to have
agreed to sign up to a United States tax declaration programme. Experts warn
the associated legal costs of complying with the treaty could "kill"
some of the smaller banks. Big banks, which sparked the US crackdown by
knowingly or recklessly harbouring untaxed assets, have the financial clout to
absorb costs and fines. But regional
institutions, making up one in four of all Swiss banks, may face a harsher
ultimate penalty, despite shouldering a far lesser burden of guilt than larger
rivals. – SwissInfo.ch
The US government is only being reasonable. It will
prosecute Swiss banks to the full extent of the law in order to make sure that
tax revenues and resultant benefits to US citizens are maintained.

Where have all the Christians gone? According
to Pew Research, in 1900, eight out 10 Christians were living in Europe and
North America. Today, the map demographics has been completely scrambled.
In Latin America alone, there are
517 million Christians. In Africa, 411 million. Asia tallies 351 million. Once
a global powerhouse of Christianity, Europe is home to an ever-shrinking 553
million (expected to drop to 480 million by 2050,) while Northern America has
275 million. In his new book, "From Times Square to Timbuktu: The Post-Christian West Meets
the Non-Western Church," Wesley Granberg-Michaelson, the former
General Secretary of the Reformed Church in America, focuses on making sense of
the massive demographic shift and explores the consequences and
responsibilities the Church must now face.
For Granberg-Michaelson, one of
those responsibilities is unity. With over 2.18 billion Christians and seemingly ever growing 44,886
denominations globally, the author empathizes that work of bringing
the Body of Christ together is difficult.

Excerpts From the Patriot Post
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty
Murray (D-WA) announced the Bipartisan
Budget Act of 2013 Tuesday night, and, as expected, it's a mixed bag. There
are no tax increases and no extension of costly unemployment benefits but the
compromise also busts the hard-won sequester caps from the 2011 Budget Control
Act. Ryan argues, "In divided government, you don't always get what you want. That
said, we still can make progress toward our goals. I see this agreement as that
kind of progress."
Instead of discretionary spending
topping out at $967 billion in 2014 (down from $986 billion in 2013), next
year's spending will increase to $1.012 trillion and then $1.014 trillion in
2015. The increase is split between
defense and domestic programs, giving both parties something. To
"pay" for $63 billion in new spending for the next two years, there
will be, over 10 years, $85 billion in savings from new fees (such as for
airport security) and minor reforms to entitlements and other government
programs. The Big Three entitlements are the biggest drivers of the
federal debt, and chipping away with small reforms is better than nothing.

Few have the cojones to tell the
truth about this 'man of peace'
JewishWorldReview.com | A man who embraced brutal dictators
throughout the Third World, such as Libya's Gaddafi and Cuba's Castro, singing
their praises and defending them publicly even as they trampled on the rights
and lives of their own people. A person who hugged Yasser Arafat at the height
of the intifada, hailed Puerto Rican terrorists who shot US Congressmen, and
penned a book titled, How to be a good
Communist.

Would you believe that there is one state out of fifty that
has the fortitude to exercise their Tenth Amendment rights?
South Carolina Republicans are on
the verge of passing a bill that would completely nullify every aspect of the
Affordable Care Act in their state. Known as H3101,
the bills purpose states:
“A bill to amend the Code of Laws of
South Carolina, 1976, so as to enact the ‘South Carolina Freedom of Health Care
Protection Act’ by adding Article 21 to Chapter 71, Title 38 so as to render
null and void certain unconstitutional laws enacted by the Congress of the United
States taking control over the health insurance industry and mandating that
individuals purchase health insurance under threat of penalty; to prohibit
certain individuals from enforcing or attempting to enforce such
unconstitutional laws; and to establish criminal penalties and civil liability
for violating this article.”
In effect, H3101 prohibits any and
all agents, officials or employees of the state of South Carolina from
implementing any provision that is part of Obamacare. It also allows for the issuing of a state tax
deduction equal to the tax penalty enacted by the IRS and makes the state
exchanges illegal. They are also considering two additional
provisions that would make the Medicare expansion illegal and the suspension of
state insurance licenses of any insurer that received federal subsidies through
Obamacare.
