The Right Lane 1.27.13

The pursuit of Constitutionally grounded governance, free markets and individual liberty

Malcolm X on Self-Defense and the Second Amendment by Gary DeMar
A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.” — George Washington

The following is from Malcolm X’s “The Ballot or the Bullet” speech delivered April 3, 1964 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was murdered less than a year later. In the 1960s, Blacks or “Negroes,” the term Malcolm X uses throughout the speech, were not only a minority racial population that did not have full civil rights, but they were severely discriminated against in various parts of the country. There were indiscriminate beatings and even lynchings. Consider what happened to Emmett Till in 1955:
“Till was an African-American boy who was murdered in Mississippi at the age of 14 after reportedly flirting with a white woman. Till was from Chicago, Illinois, visiting his relatives in the Mississippi Delta region when he spoke to 21-year-old Carolyn Bryant, the married proprietor of a small grocery store. Several nights later, Bryant’s husband Roy and his half-brother J. W. Milam arrived at Till’s great-uncle’s house where they took Till, transported him to a barn, beat him and gouged out one of his eyes, before shooting him through the head and disposing of his body in the Tallahatchie River, weighting it with a 70-pound (32 kg) cotton gin fan tied around his neck with barbed wire. His body was discovered and retrieved from the river three days later.”
Then there was the 1963 bombing of a Birmingham, Alabama, black church that killed Denise McNair (11), Addie Mae Collins (14), Carole Robertson (14) and Cynthia Wesley (14). The four girls had been attending Sunday school classes at the church. Twenty-three other people were also hurt by the blast. It’s against these types of incidents that point a fine edge on the meaning of the Second Amendment for Malcolm X:
“I must say this concerning the great controversy over rifles and shotguns. The only thing that I’ve ever said is that in areas where the government has proven itself either unwilling or unable to defend the lives and the property of Negroes, it’s time for Negroes to defend themselves. Article number two of the constitutional amendments provides you and me the right to own a rifle or a shotgun. It is constitutionally legal to own a shotgun or a rifle. This doesn’t mean you’re going to get a rifle and form battalions and go out looking for white folks, although you’d be within your rights — I mean, you’d be justified; but that would be illegal and we don’t do anything illegal. If the white man doesn’t want the black man buying rifles and shotguns, then let the government do its job. That’s all. And don’t let the white man come to you and ask you what you think about what Malcolm says — why, you old Uncle Tom. He would never ask you if he thought you were going to say, ‘Amen!’ No, he is making a Tom out of you. So, this doesn’t mean forming rifle clubs and going out looking for people, but it is time, in 1964, if you are a man, to let that man know. If he’s not going to do his job in running the government and providing you and me with the protection that our taxes are supposed to be for, since he spends all those billions for his defense budget, he certainly can’t begrudge you and me spending $12 or $15 for a single-shot, or double-action.

62% Favor Smaller Government With Fewer Services, Lower Taxes
Bottom of Form
Just 28% of Likely U.S. Voters now prefer a larger government with more services and higher taxes to a smaller one with fewer services and lower taxes, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. That's down from December’s all-time high of 34%Sixty-two percent (62%) prefer a smaller government, consistent with regular surveying for several years. Ten percent (10%) are undecided

45% Favor Replacing Income Tax with National Sales Tax
Voters still like the idea of replacing the federal income tax with a national sales tax, even though they aren’t so sure it's a better way to raise money for the government. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% of American Adults favor a proposal to eliminate the federal income tax and replace it with a national sales tax. Thirty-four percent (34%) are opposed, while 21% are undecided.

CNN: Obama Can Ignore the Law
The hopelessly biased Carol Costello was rattled to the core today when South Carolina sheriff Al Cannon gave her a lesson in Constitutional law. He also exposed Costello for the blithering hypocrite that both she and most of the media are.  My guess is that Costello and her producers forgot that country doesn’t mean dumb. Cannon’s demeanor, intelligence, education, and command of the facts ran circles around the left-wing morning anchor.  But why is Carol Costello, of all people, upset with what Cannon is doing? He is refusing to enforce any law (guns) that he believes is unconstitutional laws.  All he’s doing is following President Obama’s lead. After all, it was Obama who set a new media-accepted precedent that says it’s okay for him to violate his oath of office when it comes to upholding and enforcing our nation’s laws.  Obama has openly and publicly stated — to much media acclaim — that he will not enforce certain parts of our immigration laws or the Defense of Marriage Act. He doesn’t agree with those laws and therefore he will not enforce them.  Watch exchange here

Hypocrite Feinstein: Armed Self with Concealed Handgun
In 1995, Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) went on the record about the fact that she had a concealed carry permit and carried a concealed handgun when she walked back and forth to the hospital to see her ailing husband. She was also dealing with threats from a terror group, the World Liberation Front. The group had tried to bomb her house on one occasion and had shot out her windows on another.
Reflecting on those moments, Feinstein said:
I know the sense of helplessness that people feel, I know the urge to arm yourself, because that’s what I did. I was trained in firearms. I walked to the hospital when my husband was sick, I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if someone was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me.
Shame on Sen. Feinstein: even though she admits to knowing how it feels to know your life is in your own hands, even though she testified to the security she derived from having a gun on her person in those dark moments, Dianne Feinstein is now hell bent on banning every gun she can and to deny common citizens the same security she herself enjoyed.

Gov. Jindal: GOP ‘Must Stop Being the Stupid Party’
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal may be the U.S. Grant of Republican politics. We can’t spare him. He thinks. Gov. Jindal delivered a great speech to the Republican Party’s winter meeting Thursday that bears reading in full. Jindal sets up our current politics as a war of two ways of thinking: the American Way and the Government Way. Down the American Way lies prosperity through individual liberty, entrepreneurship, and limited government. Down the Government Way lies more central control over more of our lives coming at Americans from Washington. Republicans should be the party of the American Way, while Democrats are already the party of the Government Way.  We as Republicans have to accept that government number crunching – even conservative number crunching – is not the answer to our nation’s problems.  We also must face one more cold hard fact – Washington is so dysfunctional that any budget proposal based on fiscal sanity will be deemed ‘not-serious’ by the media, it will fail in the Senate, and it won’t even make it to the President’s desk where it would be vetoed anyway.  We must stop being stupid and act with sensibly and outsmart the ones that are kicking our butts!

2/3 of Americans Would Defy Federal Gun Ban
In a Fox News survey, two-thirds of Americans said they would “defy” a federal gun ban and keep their guns if the government ever passed a law to “take your guns.” The survey asked respondents, “If the government passed a law to take your guns, would you give up your guns or defy the law and keep your guns?” Sixty-five percent of those surveyed said they would “defy the law.” Specifically, 70% of Republicans, 68% of conservatives, 52% of Democrats, and 59% of liberals said they would “defy” a federal gun ban to keep their guns.  Any one in Washington listening?  No, they do not care.  They only want you to think they care!

Biden: Shotguns are more accurate than assault weapons
Vice President Joe Biden said it’s easier to hit a target with shotgun than an assault weapon during his first-ever “Fireside Hangout” on gun violence Thursday, hosted on the White House’s Google Plus page.
Biden made the remark to defend his position that banning assault weapons will not impede the safety of American gun owners.  “A shotgun will keep you a lot safer — a double-barreled shotgun — than an assault weapon in somebody’s hand who doesn’t know how to use it, even one who does know how to use it,” Biden said. “You know, it’s harder to use an assault weapon to hit something than it is a shotgun.” And, this guy is next in line if the president goes down!

Hagel Urges US to Turn Over Powers to International Courts
Chuck Hagel, President Obama’s nominee for defense secretary, sits on the board of fund that is the main financial backer of group urging the U.S. to join the U.N.’s International Criminal Court, which could prosecute American citizens and soldiers for “war crimes” and other offenses. WND previously exposed Hagel serves on the board of the Ploughshares Fund, a George Soros-funded group that advocates a nuclear-free world. The Ploughshares Fund has a long history of anti-war advocacy and is a partner of the Marxist-oriented Institute for Policy Studies, which has urged the defunding of the Pentagon and massive decreases in U.S. defense capabilities, including slashing the American nuclear arsenal to 292 deployed weapons. Aaron Klein’s “Fool Me Twice” spells out Obama’s shocking, radical plans for the next four years Now WND has learned that Hagel’s Ploughshares Fund is a major financial contributor to something called the Connect U.S. Fund, or CUSF.

Proof Obama’s View On Guns is Out of Step With Public
Ever since the Sandy Hook shootings, we’ve been hearing that now, at last, it’s time for the National Rifle Association to drop its “extremist” views and accept the sort of gun control that Democrats — and their allies in the press — were pushing long before Sandy Hook. When NRA Executive Vice President Wayne La Pierre proposed armed guards in schools, it was portrayed as evidence of how out-of-touch the organization was. Democratic pundits called on Obama to crush the NRA while it was on the ropes — when they weren’t calling for its members and officers to be killed. Whose idea was it anyway?

Biden: Mental Health Check May Have Prevented Virginia Tech Shooting
Vice President Biden says a mental health check on gun sales may have averted the 2007 mass shooting on Virginia Tech‘s campus. Biden’s comments came after a roundtable discussion in Richmond today that included experts involved with the gun control commission convened after the university tragedy. In April 2007 student Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 at the Blacksburg, Va., campus using two handguns. Cho had purchased the weapons legally, but subsequent investigations following the deaths found Cho had a well-documented history of mental health issues. At the time the Virginia Tech shooting was the largest such incident in U.S. history, but was surpassed in 2012 by the theater shooting in Aurora, Colo.

Water on Mars: The Endless Search With Our Tax Money Goes On by Gary North
Two more scientists have said that we — meaning American taxpayers — are close, very close, just-around-the-corner close to discovering water on Mars. Water means life is possible. Life being possible means more money spent to discover life on Mars.  Life on Mars means that the the Bible’s version of life has to be wrong. Anyway, that sequence has been the underlying motivation for NASA’s endless Mars projects for 20 years. For 20 years, American taxpayers have been exploited by NASA’s attempt to keep alive the Darwininsts’ dream of water on Mars.  About $40 billion have gone down this rat hole.  So far, nothing. Not a drop.  So, the Darwinists cry out for more exploration, and therefore more tax exploitation.  How many people could we feed instead of the nonsense of looking for water on Mars?

Obama Learns He Is Not Omnipotent; Will He Overreach?
George Orwell said it best: “Whoever is winning at the moment will always seem to be invincible.” Which brings us to another deduction: The winning side will tend to overreach.
Nothing is more dangerous than thinking that you are invincible. When the White House decided to illegally appoint three people to the National Labor Relations Board, they obviously believed that they could get away with it and bluff their way through. But they were more vulnerable than they knew. And now they have presented to the world the drama of being defeated. As Politico reports:
“The ruling found that the Senate was not actually in recess when Obama made them. ‘[T]he President made his three appointments to the Board on January 4, 2012, after Congress began a new session on January 3 and while that new session continued,” the court wrote in its decision. ‘Considering the text, history, and structure of the Constitution, these appointments were invalid from their inception.’ Implications of the decision are still being sorted out.”  Notice the language. The so-called appointments “were invalid from their inception.” This sounds to me like that, legally, no one was ever really appointed to those offices. As the story goes on to say, “One potential result raised immediately was that by invalidating the labor board appointments, the decision may have opened the door to effectively invalidating all the board’s work since they were made, including orders and regulations issued. The NLRB and the White House expressed confidence that this would not happen. ‘This court decision does not effect this operation, their ability to function,’ Carney said. The decision also could put into question the appointment of Richard Cordray to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. That appointment was made at the same time as the NLRB appointments. Carney argued that the decision will have ‘no bearing’ on Cordray, adding, ‘It simply doesn’t as a legal matter.’” Perhaps the Obama Administration is right that there will be no further consequences of the fact that the courts have told them that their appointments were illegal and invalid. But we have every reason to hope that they are just trying to appear invincible because that is all they know to do.  The arrogance stinks up the whole of D.C.

Paleontologists’ 150 Year Old Mistake
When you visit a museum and look at the fossilized skeletons of animals long extinct, have you ever wondered how accurate those skeletons really are? To begin with, it is rare for paleontologists to find complete skeletons of most animals.  In many instances, the skeleton you gaze upon is composed of a composite of more than one specimen plus there are bones that were created by technicians to fill in those that were never found.  Sometimes, all the scientists have are several teeth and a couple of bones and somehow they miraculously create a complete skeleton, based upon what they think the animal looked like.  As they find more bones, they will make changes and alterations to their models and displays. One of the biggest paleontological mistakes in history was the Brontosaurus

In 1870, famous paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh discovered part of the skeleton of a huge sauropod dinosaur.  The bones indicated that the dinosaur was so large that Marsh believed the ground would quake when it walked by, so he gave it the name Brontosaurus – thunder lizard.  When he assembled the skeleton, it was discovered that there was no skull.  Marsh decided to use the skull he had found a couple of miles away in a different quarry in a different layer of rock.  In 1974, it was discovered that Marsh’s dinosaur was actually an Apatosaurus with the skull of a Diplodocus.  An Apatosaurus skull was located and used to correct the 104 year old skeleton.  Now, scientists have discovered another paleontological mistake that has existed for over 150 years.  According to evolutionists, the first tetrapods (four legged animals) that crawled out of the water and walked on land were a group of amphibians that included IchthyostegaAcanthostega and Pederpes.  Their fossil skeletons have been studied for years and used as the evolutionary model of the transition from water to land.

New research on the three specimens has revealed that their reconstructions have been wrong for over 150 years.  University of Cambridge and the Royal Veterinary College researchers used the European Snychroton Radiation Facility to take high-energy radiation images of the skeletons.  The images allowed the team to generate highly detailed computer models of the skeletons and the animals.
When they began to examine the results of the new images, they discovered that parts of the backbone were facing the wrong direction.  One of the researchers, Prof. John Hutchinson said:
Their vertebrae are actually structurally completely different from what everyone for the last 150 or so years has pictured. The textbook examples turn out to be wrong.
The new findings changed their ideas of how these amphibians first crawled onto land.  This is one of the things about evolution that I find highly questionable.  They claim that evolution is a fact based on the evidence they have on hand.  But that evidence is always changing and thus their ‘fact of evolution’ is also constantly changing, which means that it can’t be a fact if it is always changing.
God’s Word, given to us in the Bible, never changes.  If the evidence does not match Scripture, then we know the evidence or the interpretation of the evidence is wrong.  Evidence will not change the FACTS found in the Bible.  The evidence is regularly changing the supposed FACTS of evolution.  God’s Word versus man’s word.  Who would you trust the most.
