Obamacare’s silent job killer

Obamacare has been the dog that didn’t bark in this campaign. Given some of the damaging ideas in the law, that’s a surprise. Among the worst is medical device tax, which kicks in next year. The reticence to fight about the tax is odd: It already is destroying job opportunities, and it soon will start blocking medical developments that could improve or even save many lives. The president’s health law imposes a 2.3% tax on all medical device sales. This doesn’t sound like much, but that’s misleading. The tax is not on profits, but on gross (total) receipts. For smaller device manufacturers with narrow profit margins, the tax could actually exceed their profits, pushing them into the red. Such is the case with companies known as ConMed (with possible job losses in swing states Colorado and Florida), Symmetry Medical (job centers in swing states Michigan and New Hampshire), and ultrasound pioneer Sinosite. Some medical-device makers, such as Stryker (headquarters: Kalamazoo, Michigan) and Zimmer Holdings (job locations in Nevada, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania), already have announced layoffs (1,000 and 450, respectively) as a result of the tax. In all, some 43,000 jobs could be lost due to the tax, according to a widely-cited, but industry-funded study. Another report, out just two weeks ago, showed venture capital fleeing the medical device industry, presumably in response to the new ObamaCare tax. Such investment is down for the third straight quarter, to levels as low as in 2004.

Let’s Show Our “Leaders” A Little Righteous Indignation

Has righteous indignation made a comeback? If so, hallelujah! It’s about time. In an article about National Health Services (NHS) in Britain, regarding denying health care, the writer made the correlation between NHS and Obamacare’s Independent Payment Advisory Board. What struck me was the cold and calculating disengagement from individual needs and precious life. The Progressives in leadership positions are hell bent for “denying” care, defense, or any actions supporting life. What struck me is how much like the Benghazi situation the Obamacare set up is. How so? Denial of help and care to save lives. There is a common thread. Last night I heard a caller on the Jason Lewis Show (radio) say that “Obama could have eaten a live baby during the debates, and the press would not report it and cover for him.” I thought that sounded about right. I just read someone commenting on another blog that “Hillary could have taken a gun and shot our people in Benghazi herself and she would walk away unscathed, being untouchable by the press.” I thought that sounds about right, too.

Obama’s Silence on Benghazi Indicts Him & Brings about "theories" that demean a Commander in Chief

One of my well-placed sources (retired Lt. Col.) says it is curious Ambassador Stevens had just concluded a meeting with the Turkish Consul General on Sept. 11, shortly before he was killed. Several days before, a Libyan ship docked at a Turkish port near Syria, allegedly carrying weapons from Libya to Syrian rebels. (Another report today from Canada Free Presstell us it is likely Russians ordered Iranians to attack our consulate in Benghazi in order to stop the arming of Syrian rebels.) Several people have wondered why Stevens was in Benghazi, especially on 9/11, when that location had been attacked numerous times, his requests for enhanced security going unheeded by the Administration, and he was fearful of violence and injury. Speculation, buttressed by certain developments, indicates Stevens was being used by Obama to coordinate weapons shipments to the Syrian rebels via the Turks with the use of Libyan shipping. Others have reported the perennial problem with such a scheme: weapons, including shoulder launched missiles, fall into the wrong hands, in this case, Al Qaeda. Was Stevens ambushed by Al Qaeda in Benghazi in an operation designed to acquire weapons? Did the Syrian regime order a hit on our consulate to disrupt arms shipments to Syrian rebels? Was Stevens taken out by our own government to cover other nefarious operations Stevens might have been about ready to reveal? Or was it all just a matter of Al Qaeda related groups taking the opportunity to attack and kill Americans on 9/11?

Mother Of Slain Benghazi Official: “Obama Murdered My Son” by Tim Brown

Patricia Smith, mother of slain State Department employee Sean Patrick Smith has come out and blamed Barack Obama for her son’s death, which occurred during the September 11, 2012 attacks on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya. “I believe that Obama murdered my son,” she said Thursday from the living room of her Clairemont home. “I firmly believe this.” Smith’s view echoes that of Charles Woods, father of Tyrone Woods, former Navy SEAL who died fighting in Benghazi. Charles Woods appeared on Fox News shows over the weekend to denounce decisions made by U.S. officials during the Libya attack.

“I’m a retired attorney, and I know that these actions legally do not constitute murder. But in my mind the people in the White House, all of them who have authority to send in reinforcements to prevent what they knew was going to be the death of my son, are guilty of murdering my son,” Woods said Sunday on Fox’s Sean Hannity show.

Fewer Than 200 Reportedly Show Up for Pro-Obama Rally Featuring Stevie Wonder

Cleveland.com is reporting that fewer than 200 people showed up for a unique get-out-the-vote rally for President Obama featuring legendary musician Stevie Wonder. Located at Cleveland State University, Brandon Blackwell of The Plain Dealer writes that the event was primarily to encourage early voting. However, apparently the Obama campaign has had high hopes for the impact of the president’s Hollywood backers.  ABC News wrote today that the president is finishing his campaign with a “star-studded blitz” and “banking on a final burst of star power to boost his get-out-the-vote effort.” Obama loves Celebrity more than Presidency!

Mitt Romney Rally Draws 30,0000

The presidential race returned to Ohio for the final push Friday as GOP challenger Mitt Romney held a massive rally in the Republican heartland north of Cincinnati and President Barack Obama cut a swath through central Ohio. Romney spoke to a crowd of 30,000, according to West Chester, Ohio Fire chief Tony Goller – making it the largest rally of the campaign, said Romney spokesman Chris Maloney.

“The question of the election comes down to this: Do you want more of the same or do you want real change?” Romney asked. “I promise change, and I actually have a record of achieving it.”

In a shocking statement the chairman said that if there was a shock to the system that they would accelerate the policy, even if it didn’t work. “Should the economy experience another shock — say from a U.S. “fiscal cliff” situation or a shock from abroad, then we could lengthen the period of purchases or increase the amounts (or both).”  This is the guy Romney promised to fire!!

Insane: MSNB Says Romney's Charitability is Offensive

While the East coast was being blasted with wind and water from Hurricane Sandy, both President Obama and Mitt Romney suspended their campaigning–Obama to give a press conference and walk around New Jersey to look at the damage, and Romney to donate one of his campaign buses to the cause of delivering goods to the Red Cross, and also to donate his time and manual labor to load those trucks himself. Because Mitt Romney is not only a public figure, but a Republican public figure trying to unseat a Democratic deity, he is always a suspect; he must undergo intense suspicion and never-ending scrutiny. What the media has been doing is hypothesizing Romney’s intentions in his helping with relief efforts, coming to false conclusions about his intentions, and then attacking the intentions they’re projecting onto him. MSNBC’s Martin Bashir poses the question to Ana Marie Cox as to whether she finds it “strange” that Romney is helping with relief efforts, and she responds, “I found that sort of fake relief rally, whatever it is, to be pretty offensive, and also wrong-headed.” So what other alternative does Romney have? He could have decided not to help out and instead continued campaigning. Bashir would have asked the question, “Do you think it strange that Mitt Romney continues to campaign through all of this?” and Cox would have responded, “Yes, I find it to be pretty offensive, and also wrong-headed.”

George Will predicts 321-217 Romney landslide

Washington Post George Will to the landslide column along with Fox News Channel’s Dick Morris and the Washington Examiner’s Michael Barone. On this weekend’s broadcast of “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” on ABC, Will revealed his prediction and added a bonus surprise by saying traditional Democratic state Minnesota would go for Romney as well. “I’m projecting Minnesota to go for Romney,” Will said. “It’s the only state that’s voted democratic in nine consecutive elections, but this year, there’s marriage amendment on the ballot that will bring out the evangelicals and I think could make the difference.”
