The Food Nazi's Are After You
Sugar,
Salt Next Targets of FDA after Trans Fats?
It might be time to start stocking up on pretzels and
Hershey bars. On Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration told Americans that
eating trans fats is no longer permitted in their diets. Now it looks like sugar
and salt are next on their list of banned foods additives, with several leading
scientists believing the FDA will move forward on these prohibitions.
According to Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, a cardiologist from
Harvard University, the scientific consensus is that excessive sodium
consumption by Americans is hazardous to your health. He suspects “sodium is
next” to be looked at by the FDA.
Continuing down the slippery slope in light of
Thursday’s FDA ruling, Tom Neltner, an analyst with the Natural Resources
Defense Council in Washington, D.C., asserts that the FDA will scrutinize sugar
as well.
